Do you like the idea of natural pain killers? The first therapy that we are discussing will be the TENS unit. This stands for “transcutaneous electrical nerve simulation” (TENS). This is a non-invasive therapy that is completely controlled by the ones self. (In case you can’t tell by our review, we own a TENS unit, and we appreciate the relief it provides.)

Right at the start, BE AWARE that people that have a pacemaker, or any type of electrical or metal implant should consult doctor before using. Also, pregnant women, people with epilepsy, and people with heart problems should speak with a medical professional prior to using.

How does the TENS unit work? The unit works by delivery small electrical impulses through electrodes that have adhesive pads that attach to a persons skin. These electrical impulses reduce the body’s ability to transmit pain to the spinal cord and brain by flooding the nervous system. The same electrical impulses stimulate the body to produce natural pain relievers called endorphins.

Some of the symptoms that respond to the TENS unit are Period pain, labor pain, postoperative pain, joint pain, neck and back pain. Some of the common conditions that respond to the TENS unit are: endometriosis, arthritis, sports injuries, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, diabetic neuropathy, and spinal cord injury.

The patient controls the intensity, the frequency and the duration of the TENS therapy treatment. These units are fairly inexpensive and could make a huge difference in your life, not only to ease pain, but to help reduce medications.

Some studies have been performed on the effectiveness of the TENS unit. As you can imagine, no one will make a lot of money selling TENS units, so not much research has been performed, at least not the quantifiable type.

We’ve had an inversion table, (folds up, stored in our garage) for about 14 years. It comes in handy whenever we get aches and pains associated with our backs. Ours does not have heat or massage.
